Charles Capps
Charles Capps (1898 - 1981)
Charles Capps was an active printmaker and a charter member of the Prairie Print Makers. A native of Jacksonville, Illinois, Capps moved to Wichita, Kansas, after studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He created many images of Midwestern scenes and Southwestern subjects as well as commercial art illustrations. Travels brought him to New Mexico where he was struck by the adobe architecture of Taos and Santa Fe. Known for the exceptional quality of his prints, Charles Capps created his own plates and turned out editions of about 100, then signed and numbered each one in pencil.
