Charles Brinton Cox (1864 - 1905)
Sculptor, painter Charles Brinton Cox was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1864. Cox studied with Thomas Eakins at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and at the Art Student League in New York City. Abandoning animal sculpture in 1890, he turned his talents to painting. Although based in the East, he made many Western painting trips. His subject matter indicates travel in Oregon, Texas, Mexico, and California. Returning to his home in Camden, New Jersey, from one of these trips, he died of tuberculosis in 1905 at age 41. His scarce animal sculptures are said to have shown beauty and power.
