Charles Graham

Charles Graham (1852-1911)

Primarily a self-taught painter and cartographer, Charles Graham was born in 1852 and first worked as a mapmaker for the Northern Pacific Railroad in Montana and Idaho. By 1877, he was a staff illustrator for Harper's Weekly magazine. His travels for the magazine brought him to the American West where he produced many of his Western scenes. When he left Harper’s, he became a freelance illustrator and was selected as the official artist for the Chicago World Columbian Exposition of 1893.
